Adventuremine’s environmental work encompasses a broader strategy than simply reducing single-use plastics and sorting and recycling materials. Our focus also includes social sustainability by engaging local workforce and purchasing organic ingredients from local producers to strengthen the local economy and community.
By offering local associations the opportunity to manage food sales and parking fees — where they receive 100% of the revenue — we help create activities and economic opportunities. Our operations promote local culture and traditions by selling locally crafted souvenirs and arranging events rooted in the area.
To ensure local participation and influence, the local heritage association is represented on Adventuremine’s board. Regional partners are prioritized, and many parts of our operations are carried out in collaboration with small local businesses.
Energy Efficiency and Responsible Investments
Energy efficiency is a prioritized part of Adventuremine’s environmental strategy, aimed at reducing environmental impact and optimizing operating costs. By using advanced control systems and energy-efficient heating solutions, we save significant amounts of energy in what would otherwise be an energy-intensive environment.
We use exclusively renewable energy and aim to become self-sufficient in solar power within the coming years.
Our investment strategy is based on quality and well-considered decisions rather than short-term solutions. By prioritizing sustainable and responsible investments, we promote a financially sustainable operation aligned with our environmental goals and values.
A Professional and Inclusive Workplace
Adventuremine strives to promote a workplace characterized by professionalism, inclusion and openness, where all employees have equal opportunities. We maintain a high level of gender equality at all levels, including within the board and marketing activities.
An apprenticeship system ensures that all team members can develop at their own pace, regardless of previous education or experience.
We provide regular internal and external training in safety, first aid, environmentally adapted emergency care, CPR and rescue methods to ensure staff competence in the mine’s demanding environment.
Sustainable Building and Restoration
A successful example of our construction philosophy is the unique sauna, inspired by a structure located at the mine’s 105-metre level. Timber from our own forest was locally sawn, hand-planed and treated with tar and linseed oil.
During 2023–2024, a unique brick building from 1918 was saved from demolition. The renovation reused bricks from a building of the same era and followed original construction methods and materials.
Long-Term Stability and Cultural Preservation
Adventuremine operates across three business areas, contributing to financial stability. We intend to grow slowly to ensure long-term sustainability and economic health.
We invest in maintenance and monitoring of historical buildings and collect stories, interviews and historical materials from the mining era, including tools, texts and machinery.
Safety, Education and Collaboration
Staff receive continuous training and we have extensive experience in safety management. Personnel from the Swedish Armed Forces and emergency services train with us and support our education programs.
We collaborate with upper secondary schools and Dalarna University to offer practical training and project involvement.
Protecting a Sensitive Environment
We actively create natural barriers and communicate visitor guidelines to protect structures and historical remains.
A management plan preserves historical remains and protected plant species in the unique surface environment, where mining traces date back to the 17th century.
We are committed to protecting this valuable site while operating responsibly.
