Sauna & cold bath 80 metres underground

Experience the world’s most powerful sauna through the unique Lady of the Mine sauna ritual, created as a tribute to her presence that has played an important role throughout history. Join a guided sauna experience where her mystique and wisdom will make you forget time and space for a while.

For centuries, the Lady of the Mine has observed life within the mine. Legend says she watched over the tunnels and could warn of coming dangers or reveal where great discoveries could be found. Today, the treasures are no longer ore in the rock – the richness now lies in the mine’s adventure experiences, where the sauna ritual is the latest discovery.

How does the tour work?

The Lady of the Mine sauna ritual begins above ground, where your guides conduct a safety briefing and explain what to expect. Once properly equipped and ready, you descend underground.

You walk down via the stairs in the personnel shaft and continue through long tunnels and vast rock chambers that will leave you in awe. The descent takes approximately 45 minutes – a manageable challenge where you gradually adapt to the mine environment while the guide shares fascinating details before you arrive at the sauna.

There, you change into your swimwear in the glow of old mining lanterns.

The sauna master then guides you through the Lady of the Mine sauna ritual for approximately two hours. The ritual includes different elements designed to stimulate and enhance your senses, allowing you to experience both warmth and cold in a safe environment. History and legend blend with music and Aufguss rituals.

Before the ritual concludes, you enjoy locally produced delicacies and prepare for the continued adventure along new paths out of the mine. There are even a few surprises along the way back up, which takes approximately 45 minutes.

Once above ground again, you will experience the world with completely new eyes.

The temperature in the mine is 4°C (39°F) year-round, so dress warmly in layers.
We recommend thermal base layers, a warm sweater, and durable warm trousers and jacket. Choose sturdy shoes with good grip, preferably suitable for forest terrain, and bring a hat.

You will also need your own swimwear, towel and preferably slippers, beach shoes or similar – though this is not mandatory. Gloves are mandatory on our tours and can be purchased at reception.

All personal belongings must be carried in a small backpack so your hands remain free while walking.

Out of respect for the mine environment, we kindly ask you to avoid using hair products such as hairspray before the tour.

Will we move through narrow spaces during the tour?

No. You can walk upright in all tunnels and chambers. The narrowest passages are approximately 2 x 2 metres.

Can the charcuterie board be adapted to dietary preferences?

Yes, minor adjustments can be made. Please email your dietary preferences together with your booking number to sauna@adventuremine.se , and we will arrange it.

Is it possible to book a combined Adventure Tour and Sauna Ritual?

Yes. This is available both as an open tour (together with other guests) and as a private experience.

Should I wear bathing shoes?

It is not required, but some guests find it comfortable to wear slippers, beach shoes or neoprene socks, as the platform outside the sauna can feel cold.
